Former Wallabies captain Stephen Moore believes that the National Rugby Championship (NRC) is living to its name with the inclusion of the Fiji Airways Fijian Drua.

The tough hooker who retired from professional rugby last year is in the country with the Classic Wallabies.

He told SUNsports that competition offers more in terms of improving Fiji’s rugby structures.

“It’s a great opportunity to develop those local players in the Fijian Drua and they will become very competitive,” he said.

“You’ve seen that in rugby league as well as the Papua New Guinea side is doing really well.

“So it’s a very important part of having that competition for the Fijian team.

“Absolutely it’s a good Drua team. I don’t know a lot about the team but I think it’s a great team.

“I think anything is possible I mean rugby is a big sport in Fiji.

“In saying that the sevens team has been on the top of the world in terms of the Olympic Games so definitely it can happen.”

Moore said the sporting talent in the country is really incredible.

“We are seeing players playing rugby league now so it’s nice to see them getting opportunities to play different sports.”

He is looking forward to be playing alongside his former Wallaby team-mates like Lote Tuqiri, Radike Samo and Samu Kerevi as they take on the Fijian Legends at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori at 1pm.

“It’s been nice to come here because I had a long rugby career where I played with some players from Fijian background.

“So I’m proud to be here with some of them this time and share with their culture.

“Get to know people like visiting schools and the communities,” added Moore who has 129 Test caps for the Wallabies.
