Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Sitiveni Rabuka says he will accept the outcome of his court case.

Speaking at the party’s Special General Assembly at Nawanawa Road, Nadera, yesterday, he used the analogy of going to war.

He likened his court case to a battle. In battle some never make it to the other side. He said that was the reality.

He made the speech after the meeting endorsed the amendments to the party constitution to allow for the creation of a deputy leader post and acting roles as part of a succession plan.

This is in preparation if Mr Rabuka loses his court case. He is facing charges in connection with the declaration of his assets and liabilities.

He said he subscribed to the succession plan.

The issue was first raised at the annual general meeting at Namoli Village, Lautoka, on June 30 by the Naitasiri constituency. But their motion was rejected because it was unconstitutional, ruled president Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

But Ratu Naiqama recognised the wisdom in the motion and instructed that the constitution needed to be amended to accommodate the aims and objectives of the motion.

The resolution yesterday vindicated Naitasiri, whose delegates were seen as villains in Namoli, Lautoka. The debate over the issue got so heated that a counter motion was also brought up to expel Sainiana Radrodro, wife of Naitasiri MP Aseri Radrodro.

In her Facebook post yesterday, Mrs Radrodro said when Naitasiri brought up the recommendation for shadow party leader and a deputy party leader “we were shot down and made to look like culprits.

“Some thought we were trying to be judge and jury in the party leader’s case. They didn’t realise we are practical people who hold our responsibility to those who voted for SODELPA dearly. We have a responsibility to watch and make decisions in their best interest.” She said Naitasiri had been vindicated.

“I thank all who stood with us during those most challenging days. I am grateful to the team that met and prayed consistently over all that we took up in Lautoka. And especially to the friends and family from Naitasiri for supporting our members of Parliament.

Vinaka saka vakalevu. Toso ga na masu kei na lolo (Continue praying and fasting).

“The party belongs to the people. We must always remember that and put them above personal self.”

Mr Rabuka said people in Namoli thought that Ratu Naiqama was a bit abrupt in asking them to take the motion back, but now in hindsight they would see the wisdom of that decision.

He said they had gone through the process where the management board recommended to the general assembly the amendments and they had been adopted by the general assembly.

He said the appointment will be done depending on when they will assemble the management board next. Added that in the absence of that it will take 21 days to assemble the management board, but the party president is empowered to make the temporary acting appointment which will be formalized in the normal process.

Ratu Naiqama sent his apology for not attending because he was in Taveuni to mourn the death of his mother.

The meeting was chaired by Vice President Anare Jale.
