Rakuro ‘Northern Prince’ Daunivavana took only 45 seconds of the first round to knock
out hard hitting Krishna Mudaliar in the main supporting bout at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Saturday.
A fit looking Daunivavana connected well with his jabs before an overhead right sent Mudaliar sprawling to the canvas.
He beat the referee’s count but Daunivavana pounced on him with a combination of punches that sent him to the canvas again with referee Fatu Tuimanono stepping in to stop the fight.
“I really prepared well for this fight compared to my previous fights,” said Daunivavana who is the nephew of former welterweight champion Tevita Vakalalabure.
“I have been always called in as a replacement boxer, firstly against Ronald Naidu and then Sebastian Singh where I trained only for two weeks.
“This time it was more than month. I was going for a knockout. I’m looking forward to more fights but I want a shot at a Fijian title before going for a World Boxing Foundation or International Boxing Organisation title or whatever.”
Daunivavana also said he’s looking for a rematch with Singh.
“I’m still waiting for Sebastian Singh to come out and fight me at welterweight.”
In the extra-main supporting bout promising super middleweight boxer Robin Hazelman stopped Asivorosi Turaga in the fourth round.
The Savusavu native who has maternal links to Levuka said he was confident of beating Turaga.
“I expected what happened in the ring today. Since he was a tough boxer our game plan was to make him tired before we moved in to force the stoppage.
“He wants a rematch but I want to face a new guy.”
Hazelman added that he is having talks with several promoters about his next fight.

Sunia Dari beat Felix Chongsue 4TKO, Azmat Manna beat Ronald Kumar 1KO, Esira Cagi drew Epeli Naliva, Shamal Ram Anju beat Aklesh Pratap 2TKO, SikeIi Senidoko beat Saimoni Mario 1KO, Gabrieli Ravalawa beat Benjamin Joseph 3TKO
