Tributes have poured in for Murray Mackenzie, one of the doyens of the Fiji Institute of Accountants (FIA).

The funeral of Mr Mackenzie, who was acting executive director at the FIA, was held in Suva yesterday.

FIA president Nazin Khan said Mr Mackenzie would be remembered for his work ethic and sharp wit.

“Murray’s dedication and contribution to FIA was of the highest standards. He always prioritised the institute’s interests,” Mr Khan said.

The Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants also expressed sadness at the news of Mr Mackenzie’s death.

“The late Mr Mackenzie has been an inspiration for all of our Professional Accounting Organisation (PAO) family in the Pacific especially young institutes such as ours here in Solomon Islands,” the institute said in a letter to FIA.

“We will cherish his memory and will learn from his insights at our PAO meetings and other gatherings where he had been a keynote speaker at.

“His pioneering assistance in setting up FIA has urged other Pacific PAOs to seek to emulate the pathway that FIA has followed throughout the past years toward an exemplary institute in the Pacific.”

Rajeshwar Singh, FIA vice president and chief financial officer at Bank South Pacific, described Mr Mackenzie as a “jovial and intelligent” person.

“The last time we met was at a council meeting and I remember we were constantly joking,” Mr Singh said.

“He had so many good qualities and was someone who was dedicated to his work and the field of accounting.”

Mr Mackenzie passed away peacefully on August 30 at Suva’s Colonial War Memorial Hospital, FIA announced in a statement.
