Former students of St Thomas Primary and Secondary schools in Lautoka have been travelling from all parts of the globe to celebrate the schools’ three-day reunion.

St Thomas Schools Ex-students Association president Tuni Beddoes said the reunion will start this morning at the Lautoka Parish Hall with traditional ceremonies of welcome.

It will be followed by the celebration of Mass and the Annual General Meeting.

On Saturday, the ex-students will gather for the gala night at Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi to renew friendships and relive their STS years.

Formal invitations have been extended and indications are that more than 200 ex-students, religious, faculty, and staff will be in attendance.

Plans for this year’s event began immediately following the very successful 2015 reunion.

Mr Beddoes said this year’s event promised to be enjoyable and memorable.

“We have more classes participating this time and the very positive response to the last reunion indicates that those who attended will certainly be returning to this one,” he said.

“We have made a strong, early effort to contact as many ex-students as possible so that they can plan their vacations and travel schedules around the reunion. We will have students attending from Australia, New Zealand, UK, US and East Sudan, including Fiji.”

The reunion committee, which is made up of Nadi and Lautoka branch members of the association, has attempted to make the event as accommodating as possible.

Mr Beddoes said much of the planned format for this year’s event was similar to what they learned from the previous reunion.

“We listened very carefully to those people who attended in 2015,” he said.

“We knew that we needed to find a location that can comfortably cater for the number of expected guests, offers hotel accommodation within walking distance and is accommodating enough so that people will want to attend.

“We are confident that the Tanoa International Hotel fulfils all our requirements.”

A ticket for the Gala Night is $60 per person and is open to all interested STS ex-students.

“We have tried to keep the fee relatively low by encouraging other branches in Fiji and around the world for financial assistance,” Mr Beddoes said.

“We have received huge response and thank everyone for their great efforts and support.”

Mr Beddoes said that they would like to be able to find as many ex-students as possible.

He said that they have used every available means to track down and the best source of information has been through friends and family using social media.

“St. Thomas’s is a very special place and the reunion is a great way to keep those memories and friendships alive.”
