Meet Vodafone Sugar Festival Queen Contestant: Salote Taleaua

Name: Salote Taleaua, 20, Lautoka

Occupation: Sales and Customer Representative at Fiji Meats Limited.

What are your hobbies?

Singing, dancing and most importantly socialising with friends.

How did the idea of being a contestant come about?

Being part of this festival has always been a dream for me. I always sat in the ground in previous years and watched other contestants perform on stage. Being part of this platform will enable me to become confident and a better person in life as well.

What are the major challenges faced in the community?

It would be pollution because rubbish seems to be everywhere. When you just take a walk to the city and the bus station, you see a lot of air pollution and rubbish lying on the ground. We need to start taking care of our environment because everything we do has an impact on Mother Nature.

What is you major source of inspiration in life?

My mother is my biggest source of inspiration. She is someone I really adore and without her, it wouldn’t have been possible to make it this far in this life’s journey.

What was your biggest obstacle in life and how did you master it?

My biggest obstacle in life would be the girl who always stood behind the curtains. But being part of this platform has enabled me to boost my confidence level.

What is your philosophy towards a happy life?

My philosophy towards a happy life is that you just need to be yourself, help others and you will find the inner happiness that you need.

How do you handle failures and what keeps you going face to face with disasters?

Take one step at a time. Sometimes one may be discouraged, but you can always re-try. Be strong and stand up if you have failed in life.

If you had the opportunity to change one thing about the society, what would it be?

I want to empower women out there to be strong and independent members of the society. Women should also come out courageous and be able to share their ideas on the larger platform. I would also ensure that women are given equal employment opportunities in the society as well.
