Drug accused on remand

Hari Dayal Singh has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court in a special court sitting yesterday.

Singh was charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs. He appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama.

It is alleged that on September 5, 2018, in Suva, Singh without lawful authority was in possession of 0.6 grams of methamphetamine, an illicit drug.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Raymond Filipe objected to the bail, saying the accused was allegedly found with four plastic bags of the substance and 12 empty plastic bags. Singh has been remanded in custody. The matter has been adjourned to September 11.

Mum-of-three  appears on
assault charge

A 24-year-old mother of three children yesterday appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court charged with one count of assault on a police officer.

Ledua Tefuki Koroi appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama in the special court sitting.

She is charged with one count each of assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that on September 5, 2018 , in Suva, Koroi assaulted a police officer when she was told to move aside. Upon search conducted by the police officer, a stash of illicit drugs was allegedly found in her possession.

Koroi sought Legal Aid assistance. She informed the court that she was unemployed and was being supported by her parents who live in Australia and are in Fiji for holiday.

She was granted bail on the assurance of two sureties. The matter was transferred to Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara’s court. The matter was adjourned to September 21.

Court remands man on
dishonesty charge

A man charged with dishonesty appeared at the Suva Magistrate Court special sitting yesterday.

Tamanirarama Jone appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama.

It is alleged that on September 7, 2018 in Suva, Jone dishonesty made off with intent to avoid payment amounting to $10.20 to the complainant. Jone is also charged with disorderly conduct at a Police station.

It is alleged that on September 7, 2018, in Suva, Jone conducted himself in a disorderly manner at the Totogo Police Station charge room.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Raymond Filipe objected to the bail on the ground that the accused did not have a permanent residential address and said the accused was residing with his friends. Jone was remanded in custody. The matter was adjourned to September 11.
