The Vodafone Fijian football side need to be consistent if they are to beat Singapore tonight.

This was view of Fijian football head coach Christophe Gamel who also indicated that with consistency the players must have the right state of mind.

Looking at today’s clash, Gamel says, they are expecting a tough encounter.

“The boys need to work on consistency and be mentally ready to perform,” he said.

“We are expecting a really tough game against Singapore since they are ranked higher than Fiji so I could say I’m a bit worried.”

Gamel said, players were a bit jet-lagged and training was not what he had expected.

“They are not at the level they are and the training today was catastrophic, maybe it is from the long trip and the tiredness.

“We had this problem in Philippines and Indonesia. I hope that in the programme they were in the same state of mind and we need to work more on that. It is a big game and we’ll see how they perform tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, the Singapore national football side dubbed the Lion is fresh from a 1-1 draw against Mauritius.

Newly appointed interim coach Fandi Ahmad has introduced exciting football tactics that have thrilled their fans.

“It’s still work in progress,” he said.

Ahmad, who was appointed as the interim coach in May by the Football Association of Singapore, will lead the national team for the 2018 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup in November.

Singapore last won the biennial tournament in 2012 and are without a competitive victory in almost three years.

Fandi showed he was not afraid to inject fresh blood into the side, handing debuts to brothers Zulqarnaen and Zulfadhmi Suzliman against Mauritius, a team 14 spots above Singapore, who are ranked 169th, in the FIFA rankings.

The match kicks-off at 11.30pm (Fijian time).
