China, Fiji Share Genuine Defence Forces: Tawake

People’s Republic of China and Fiji share common challenges, global interest and common defense partnership.

The statement was made by Commander Captain (Navy) Humphrey Tawake after two Fiji naval officers were officially offered a four-year scholarship each to study in China.

The official announcement was held at the Chinese embassy in Nasese on Monday where midshipwoman Esita Batiniqila, 19 and midshipman Samuela Logavatu, 20, where given their air tickets and necessary documents.

The duo will undergo four years of study for a Bachelor’s degree at the Naval Ship Service Command and Naval Military Science from Dalian University in Liaoning, in China.

“This show  a genuine relationship as defense partners and with the belief there are more opportunities set before us because we share common grounds,” Captain (Navy) Tawake said.

Captain Tawake said having a four- year scholarship was an opportunity to enhance the co-operation between two countries and strengthen the defense relationships between the two countries.

“Such privilege is a significant milestone achieved within the local defense forces cooperation and China,” he said.

“It is also a door, indicating the generous leadership tools accomplished and look forward to more opportunities in the future.

Chinese ambassador to Fiji,Qian Bo said this was another opportunity between Republic of China and Fiji.

“We have great transformation in many years ago in Beijing, China,” Mr Qian said.

China, he said was very lucky because they were experiencing and witnessing the great transformation in a human history.

“China and Fiji have good mutual relationship in terms of defense co-operation nowadays,” Mr Qian said.

Currently, he said China and Fiji have joined excellent forces that have developed steadily and smoothly.

“Many officers from Fiji have been sent to China for training so this is very important as part of our cooperation,” he said.

Mr Qian said China as one of the leaders in development in the world will continue as the friendly strategic partner with Fiji in years to come.
