The University of Fiji has refuted claims that it intimidated and threatened staff in the clock-in and clock-out dispute.

The claims were made by some staff who resent the  extension of the clock-in and clock-out policy to cover academics.

The policy has been implemented in administration.

Many academics have joined the Staff Association of the University of Fiji (SAUF) to fight against the policy.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Narendra Reddy says the policy is an administrative decision.

“It does not in any way restrict academic freedom nor teaching of evening and weekend classes,” he said.

“This decision does not have any implications on any contractual agreement. The teaching programme at the university is functioning without any interruption,” he said.

“This is an existing arrangement now extended to all staff for uniformity and accountability purposes.

“The Staff Association of the university has raised their grievances and have met with me to discuss the matter.

“The university appreciates the opportunity given to it to respond to the queries.”
