Rabuka case adjourned

SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka’s case has been adjourned to September 24.

The case was called for mention at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday, but Magistrate, Jioji Boseiwaqa was not present.

On the first charge, Rabuka is charged with one count of providing false declaration of assets, income and liabilities under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and disclosures) Act of 2013.

In 2017, Rabuka is alleged to have provided a false declaration of assets and liabilities to the Supervisor of Elections by failing to provide information pertaining to the tax liability with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Services (FRCS) which amounted to $316,956.20.

He also failed to declare the Investment and interest income with Ragwhan Constructions Limited in the amount of $200,000 and $16,000 respectively and also the liability in the amount of $120,000.

On the second charge, Rabuka is charged with one count of breach of bail conditions.

He is alleged to have approached and interfered with a witness connected with his first charge, which was a condition imposed by the court whilst granting him bail initially.

Alleged sexual assault on student

Investigators are awaiting the victim’s medical report before the two suspects in the case will be brought in for questioning.

The two Year Eight students are alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim, who is a Year One student inside a classroom, on September 12. The victim sustained injuries and remains admitted in hospital as investigations continue. Police Media Cell

Suspect arrested

A man in his 20s is in Police custody for his alleged involvement in a burglary and an aggravated robbery case in Savusavu.

On September 12 the suspect is alleged to have entered the home of a 60- year-old woman at Oneva Estate and stole assorted jewellery worth more than $200,000.

In the second incident, an aggravated robbery case, the suspect is alleged to have robbed a foreign retiree residing in Savusavu on September 11.

The victim had offered the suspect a ride into Savusavu town when he allegedly stole a bag from the back seat of the car which contained local and foreign currencies.

Yesterday investigators arrested the suspect, who is alleged to have been involved in both cases. Police have made full recovery of the jewellery allegedly stolen from the home of the 60- year-old victim.

The suspect is in custody at the Savusavu Police Station. Police Media Cell

Vunika accident

The post mortem examination of an accident victim conducted yesterday revealed that the cause of death were the injuries sustained during a motor vehicle accident.

The driver allegedly involved in the accident at Vunika, Labasa, will be taken in for questioning.
