Three primary schools in the Western division received sporting gears from the Rugby Association of Japan.

This was possible through the Ba Provincial Freebird Institute who negotiated the deal between the schools and rugby team, Ricoh and Ricoh Logistics.

The three schools are Lautoka Delana Primary, Nadi District and Namaka Public.

Institute manager Akifumi Kawakami, during the handover at the Namaka Public School in Nadi said, “We were able to receive this though our networking with our friends and students back home in Japan.

“We saw there was a great need for rugby kits such as balls and boots for the local students.”

Kawakami said 90 second- hand rugby boots and nine rugby balls were equally distributed to the three schools.

Namaka Public School head teacher Subramani Krishna thanked the group for their assistance.

“We are very thankful for the support being rendered to the students as we have some very talented players.”

Namaka Public School produced some players like former national 7s rep Jope Ledua, Taniela Rawaqa, Waisale Beci, Joeli Lotawa, former Lautoka rep Vuniani Tauvoli and Nadi first five- eighth Ilisoni Ratusai.
