The Navua football team are a step closer from winning back the senior division title of the Courts Inter-District Championship after they beat Tailevu/Naitasiri 2-1 in the semi-final at the Fiji FA Academy ground yesterday.

Speaking to SUNsports Navua team director John Wise said they have achieved what they had set out to do.

“We now look forward to our next opponent and try to improve on areas that were exploited today.,” he said.

Tailevu/Naitasiri started strongly and took the lead in the 5th minute from a Meli Nagusudrau strike.

Navua kept on with their attacking game and it paid dividend in the 44th minute when they scored the equaliser through veteran Netani Doli.

With the scores at 1-1, both teams threw everything into the second half as they searched for the winning goal.

At fulltime it was 1-1 and it was during the first half of the extra spell when Navua’s Monit Chand spotted a gap in the Tailevu/Naitasiri defence and slotted in the winning goal.
