The women groups of Drawa, Vatuvonu, Lutukina, Batiri and Nayarailagi villages in Macuata have received $10,000 to facilitate their economic ambitions.

The trustees of each village women’s group were present to receive the funding made possible through the ANZ donation to Live & Learn Fiji.

With work-plans developed to engage in community based businesses, identified foremost is the interest to open business bank accounts as an outcome of the ANZ Money Minded training that were facilitated in these communities in July 2017.

Also present were Ministry of Women’s representative Fulori Musukasau and ANZ Northern manager Talei Tawake.

The session encompassed sharing of the engaged partners on community business ventures that have been successful and words of encouragement for the initiation of these new businesses.

Mrs Tawake encouraged the women ‘to uphold integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence in their business and urged the women to dream big, beyond the scope of their communities, for their communities benefit’.

Ms Musukasau said: “That based on current outcomes of projects supported by the Ministry of Women, the women have the potential to do a lot with the donation receipted and to contribute to the development of their village.”

A partnership approach inclusive of communities in designing these initiatives was taken with ANZ, Ministry of Women and Ministry of Agriculture, who had provided critical advice regarding technical guidance on business options.

Live & Learn’s Pacific Programme director Doris Susau shared ‘that an integrated partnership approach is significant in the establishment and success of community driven initiatives; and that we should view challenges as opportunities for growth.  Integrated partnerships is critical for the sustainability of any operation’.

Since 2011, Live & Learn Fiji has delivered various donor funded community development projects within these communities with the support of government and private partners. Source: Live & Learn Fiji
