The 2018 Vodafone Back to Levuka Carnival kicked off yesterday together with the Fiji Day celebrations at Nasau Park in Levuka.

The carnival features five queen contestants vying for the Miss Levuka crown, who will represent the Old Capital at the Miss Fiji Pageant later this year.

The theme for this year’s carnival is “Our Island, Our Environment, Our Livelihood for our Future”.

At the carnival opening, Vodafone Fiji Ltd’s manager recharge sales and distribution Nilesh Singh, said the 2018 Vodafone Back to Levuka Carnival was important for people to come together to support a charitable cause.

Mr Singh said the company had always aimed to sponsor the 11 festivals across the country after seeing how its contribution had positively helped towards the development of towns and cities.

“The support in assisting the townships can be seen through community projects undertaken from the funds raised through the festivals,” Mr Singh said.

“Vodafone Fiji Limited is proud to have revived the festivities in Levuka last year after a lapse of 15 years,” Mr Singh said.

“The carnival provides an opportune platform for these individuals to gain confidence and become ambassadors of their communities in bringing forth positive societal change.

“We have in the past and always will be the forefront to sponsor events that not only augment individuals initiatives but communities and country as a whole,” he added.

The carnival ends on Saturday.
