The late Konisi Tabu Yabaki, 77, was a trailblazer in his village, says cousin Nete Yabaki.

He was from Tiliva Village, Nakasaleka, Kadavu.

Mr Yabaki who was delivering the eulogy at the funeral service at Nabua Methodist Church said: “He showed us that if he can do it so can the rest of us.”

“Many of us were brought up by my cousin’s family and we have done very well,” he said.

“We have all known his dedication and his hard work. My cousin has shown all of us a path that we should all follow.

“He was the first person in our village to get a degree and even reached the position of a minister.”

The former cabinet minister in the interim Government after the 2000 coup and in the SDL-Government after the 2001 General Election up to the 2006 election, was buried at the Old Suva Cemetery.

He died at his home at Laucala Beach, Nasinu, on October 4.

Mr Yabaki said: “He was someone who put God first in everything he did. He prayed even at 12pm and 6pm. This was his routine every day and he never missed it. His life can be compared to Daniel in the Bible.

“He showed us an example of how we should live our life.

“I believe he is resting at a better place.”
