Tugboats To Assist Grounded Fishing Vessel Near Lakeba Waters, 18 Crew Safe
The Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Center was activated yesterday morning.

Maritime Commander of the Republic of Fiji Navy, Commander Ledua Yaco has confirmed that two tugboats departed Suva yesterday afternoon to assist a vessel that ran aground in the Lau waters.

This is after the Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre was activated early yesterday morning.  A fishing vessel had ran aground and set off its distress beacon in the waters close to Lakeba.

Commander Yaco confirmed the fishing vessel is Lu Rong Yuan Yu 559.

“The two tugboats are expected to reach the scene after midday today and render assistance as necessary.

“There is no serious structural damage to the grounded vessel and all 18 crew are safe.

“The FMSRCC will continue to monitor this case.”
