For Mariselina Wati to vote in the pre-polling election yesterday was something she had been anticipating since the beginning of this year.

The 99-year-old of Natokalau Village in Bua, Vanua Levu was born on January 1, 1919. She has five children, 38 grandchildren and 11 great grand children.

Ms Wati, or

Voting at this village started from 11am. Nau Mari as she is fondly known, was among the 42 voters who voted at the Natokalau Village Hall. She was waiting at the village hall to cast her vote by 9am.

She was eager to cast her vote in the election after missing out in the previous one.

“This is something, I have been looking forward to from the beginning of the year. I am proud to cast my vote and be one of the many Fijians whose voices will be heard,” she said.

First-time voters at Natokalau Village were pleased to be part of history and to get their voices heard in the general election.

20-year-old Mikaele Turagalevu said: “This year the competition is stronger than the previous years. We are more informed because we get to listen to what the party leaders have to say through the radio. I voted for the FijiFirstParty because of all the developments they have done in my village and province.

Penioni Kinilovo, said: “I voted for the FijiFirst Party because I can see prosperity in their manifesto. I believe so much in the Bainimarama Government. We are hopeful that whichever party forms the next government will always put people first.”
