Walesi Free WiFi hotspot now in Valelevu, 14th site

The town of Valelevu was a buzz yesterday as over 3000 people at­tended the launch of the Walesi Free WiFi hotspot at the Rajendra grounds.

Walesi Fiji Limited director, Robert Khan said to date they have recorded 119,000 downloads through the Walesi application.

Mr Khan said Valelevu would be the 14th hotspot location and they have seen a positive response from the public.

“With 119,000 downloads of the Walesi app this shows people are engaging strongly with government digital TV initiative via Walesi,” he said.

“Firstly national digital television has a partnership with digital Fiji on the digital Television space.

 

“Now we are almost completing the two phases, firstly providing free wifi to students at the Fiji National University and the launch of public wifi to 14 sites across Fiji.

“We have got 19,500 users weekly and this site allow the users to have one hour free wifi daily

Mr Khan further stated that the free pub­lic wifi services provide provide the general public opportunities to connect locally and internationally for education and informa­tion gathering and social media.

He acknowledged the government for the their vision to modernise Fiji and take it into the digital world.

His vision to take Fiji into a digital fron­tier has been realised by digital television and free connectivity for FNU students and the launch for free public wife across Fiji

“The government has been working very hard for the last few years to make educa­tion better and life more modern and easier for all Fijians,” he said.

“It is with the launching of free wifi all over the country by walesi that this move to connect all Fijians to a modern Fiji is work­ing.”

Areas with Walesi Free WiFi hotspot in­clude Suva, Lami, Navua, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba Rakiraki Tavua, Korovou, Shiriya Park, Nausori, Valelevu, Labasa and Savusavu

Seruwaia Ratulevu, 27, was one of the many enthusiasts waiting in the long line to receive her Walesi set-up box during the Free Wifi Hotspot Launch.

Ms Ratulevu opted for Walesi because of the clear quality and the content of pro­grams offered.

“There is a lot of opportunities for my children to watch cartoons and there are a lot of other television programmes to watch which is interesting,” said Ms Ratulevu.

Ms Ratulevu and her family had also praised the Government’s initiatives for the free Wifi Hotspot in Valelevu.
