Kalione Nasoko will captain the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team to the World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai which starts next Friday.

The Waya Levu, Yasawa native led the Fijian team to victory in the 2018 Oceania Sevens Championship where they defeated New Zealand in the Cup final 17-12 in Suva early this month.

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber said; “Kalione will captain the team again to Dubai.

“I trust him and I believe we are in a good position this time to have a strong start in this 2018/2019 Sevens Series.

“We realised on getting the points early in the series starting in Dubai and we don’t want to be chasing points,” Baber said.

With the head coach announcing his final 12 players tomorrow it is expected senior players with the likes of Vatemo Ravouvou, Seremaia Tuwai, Amemoni Nasilasila, Alasio Naduva, Sevuloni Mocenacagi alongside few new players will make the cut.

“The new players have contributed well to the squad, expect some new players in the final squad,”Baber said.

“They played well during the Oceania Sevens and during training they have put up their hands for selection.”

Few players were sick after the Oceania tournament while some were injured. But Baber is confident it will not affect the team’s momentum for Dubai as there are other players who can replace them.

“I’m comfortable, the fitness level is good, it is where we need to be in for the series. This is obviously a long way to go, we have been doing a lot of work.

“We are in the better position to play.”
