Nasautoka Chief, Ratu Semi, Dies

Nasautoka Village chief in Wainibuka, Ratu Semi Seruvakula has died. This was confirmed to the Fiji Sun yesterday by the chairperson of the Tailevu Provincial Council Rusiate Tudravu.

He said the funeral would be held at Nasautoka village next week. They were yet to confirm the date.

Ratu Semi served as Assistant Minister for Internal Affairs in the interim Cabinet formed by Laisenia Qarase in the wake of the 2000 coup. He held office until an elected government took power in September 2001.

He was a lecturer at the former Nasinu Teachers College (NTC) in Nasinu now the Fiji National University Campus.

The late Seruvakula also helped in rugby and was involved in organising referee clinics.

He is the father of Fiji Airways Drua Head coach Senirusi Seruvakula.

Another son, Viliame Seruvakula, who was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces resigned from the military in early 2006 to take up a post with the Peace and Security division of the United Nations.
