Investigations have started to ascertain whether some Fijian women were allegedly hired to provide sexual services and entertainment for certain politicians recently.

The permanent secretary at Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ioane Naivalurua was sent the article by this newspaper yesterday.

Mr Naivalurua said it was the first time he had seen the article.

“We will seek further information from our mission in PNG,” he said.

While there is no official confirmation, the report is said to be a much-talked about issue in PNG. The gathering of the politicians was reportedly at a hotel and questions have been raised whether it was a case of sex trafficking.

The report goes on to say that 12 young Fijian women were seen at one stage but hotel staff later said there were about 20 or so, who were asked to service the politicians.

Furthermore, the article says that some of the ladies were so young and pretty and the politicians were old enough to be their grandfathers.

The article quotes a hotel worker saying that she saw a politician going crazy and carrying a lady even inside the lift.

“Authorities should inform the Fijian Embassy in Port Moresby to locate those girls and also investigate the duplicity of representation of Fiji in PNG…illicit representation,” the article said.

“Or also check if the entry of those young ladies amounted to sex trafficking and make appropriate complaints with appropriate authorities in Suva and Port Moresby.”

Harris Choy, one of the editors at PNG’s number one daily newspaper, The National, told the Fiji Sun that there were only speculations in the media and nobody had been able to establish the fact.

Mr Choy said there had been a huge amount of speculation, particularly on Facebook.
