Fiji Airways Fijian 7s assistant coach Kane Jury took the players on their first training run in London yesterday.

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said Jury has wealth of experience to work with the team as they await the arrival of head coach Gareth Baber.

“He (Jury) worked as skills coach for Otago in the Mitre 10,” O’Connor said.

Jury joined the Fijian 7s team this year during the USA 7s in Las Vegas.

He has a lot of experience in coaching sevens.

He worked closely with Baber while elite coach at the Hong Kong Sports Institute developing rugby.

He coached a Hong Kong national side while living there, and has coached the Otago sevens team as well. Jury also coached a New Zealand women’s development side.

He coached the Dunedin premier side in last year’s competition, which just missed out on the top four. Jury spent three weeks with the Highlanders at the end of last year, working as a skills coach.

He was the former director of rugby and in charge of high-performance sport at King’s High School.

As a player Jury was a halfback and played at provincial level.

Baber, who has recovered from a bacterial infection and is now resting at home, will fly out to London tomorrow to join the team.
