A Pacific Transport Pte Limited bus travelling from Lautoka to Suva was stoned on Friday at around 10pm near Navua.

Company general manager Nitesh Chand said there were about 40 passengers in the bus, but luckily no one was injured.

“The bus was coming from Lautoka to Suva on the 5.30pm trip. This is the third stoning this month, sixth stoning case for this year and overall 18th in three years,” Mr Chand said.

Mr Chand said reports on the incidents have been made to Police, but no feedback had been given to them concerning the matter.

“Police has not provided any report on the stoning incident to date nor have they said anything in the media,” Mr Chand said.

Mr Chand believes that the reason behind the stoning could be that bus drivers are only stopping at the legal bus stops.

“The Pacific buses do not pick or drop passengers apart from the legal stops. We ask Land Transport Authority to please highlight and create awareness to passengers on legal stop on express trips along the Queens Road,”

“Awareness should be carried out by Police and LTA, I hope the relevant authorities will act now.”

Mr Chand said the company will also be rethinking whether to invest in new buses because of the ongoing stoning accident.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said investigations on the matter were still in progress.

“Investigations are ongoing and the Deputy Commissioner has directed the issue of feedback be looked into because the safety of passengers and the company workers is at stake,” Ms Naisoro said.
