England based- tighthead prop Leeroy Atalifo believes with the depth in the side the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians stand a good chance of qualifying from their pool at the September Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The 31-year-old is aiming to play in his second RWC after forcing his way in the 2015 RWC squad.

“It’s an honour to be back in the Fiji team for another shot at the World Cup,” Atalifo said after the Flying Fijians training session at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

“The focus now is to get that spot. We’ve only one shot and we are working hard and looking forward to it. It’s all hard work.”

Atalifo said the Flying Fijians did well to beat France 21-14 last November in Paris.

Other players competing for the prop positions include veteran Campese Ma’afu, Eroni Mawi, Peni Ravai, Manasa Saulo, Luke Tagi, Kalivati Tawake and Joeli Veitayaki.

“There is a lot of competition. Also a lot of good talents have come up and they are giving us a hard time,” the former Suva prop added.

YATO: WE MUST WIN

Loosie Peceli Yato believes it is time to end the New Zealand Maori’s unbeaten run, when they clash in Suva on July 13.

“Whenever the Maori team comes to Fiji they always win,” Yato said.

“This is an important match for us and the team needs to step-up.”

He played for the Flying Fijians when they beat France 21-14 in Paris, last November. In 2017, Yato was at openside flanker and scored the opening try when the Flying Fijians beat Scotland 27-22 in Suva.
