Fiji Airways Flying Fijians lock forward Api Ratuniyarawa said they would not be intimidated with the almost star-studded New Zealand Maori squad for the Pacific Test Series.

The teams clash at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this Saturday in their first of two test matches and the 32-year-old, who plays for the Northampton Saints in the Gallagher Premiership Rugby in England, is looking forward to making the cut.

“There are some big names, many of whom playing in the Super Rugby competition,” he said.

“But the composition and quality of players will not shake us. In fact it’s all about us. What we do at training and getting our fitness right is what matters on game day. We want to give them a good run.

“It is good to be back. Good camp so far, training has been going well and looking forward to the NZ Maori and Pacific Nations Cup campaign.”

Ratuniyarawa will face competition from Harlequins-bound Tevita Cavubati, Racing 92 Leone Nakarawa and London Irish Albert Tuisue.

“It is always good to have competition. There is healthy competition in the team now, which was not there before. It helps the boys to be on their feet,” he said.

It has been a good season for me and no injury so far. Coming into this camp does help a lot.”

Ratuniyarawa is also aiming for his second Rugby World Cup cap in Japan in September.

Seniors help: Dolokoto

Hooker Mesulame Dolokoto was happy after completing the first week of training with the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians.

“It’s a privilege and honour to train with big names and seasoned players,” Dolokoto said.

“They are very helpful and we are bonding in well. We have a good week so far and looking forward to the game on Saturday.”
