After two Pacific Games and a collection of silver medals, Matelita Buadromo last night added not just one, but two gold medals to her  name.

It was a definitely a night to remember for the tough swimmer who only three days earlier had swam in the 5km open water event to win bronze for Fiji.

She was up against the natural elements- 40 knots of wind and temperatures up to 27 degrees.

As a result she had to rest for two-days to recover from dehydration and heat exhaustion.

The rest proved useful.

Last night she only had one thing on her mind.

“How much my coach and I have been through trying to get these gold medals.

“My swim club back home helped me in the rough preparation that I’ve had and they were just going through my mind,”she said.

“I cried the last 10 metres when I was ahead. I wasn’t swimming out there alone, definitely,” Buadromo said.

She stopped the clock at 2:08.58.

Buadromo’s second gold was in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.

Our golden girls in Yolan Blake, Rosemarie Rova, Cheyenne Rova and Buadromo clocked a time of 3:58.24.

Upcoming events for Buadromo:

  • 200m Individual Medley
  • 200m Freestyle
  • 400m Freestyle
