A total of $103,000 was raised during the annual Ra Provincial Council levy collection day held at Dadamu, Nanukuloa Village yesterday.

The one-day event attracted villagers from 93 villages within the 20 districts of Ra coming out in numbers.

Ra Provincial Council chairman Paula Delaivuna was impressed with the huge turnout as well as the amount collected.

These funds will be directed for the provincial council’s office operations, scholarships and other projects to benefit natives of Ra Province.

“It was the sequence of two events, firstly the provincial levy is a collection drive conducted once a year,” Mr Delaivuna said.

“The contribution today gives us 90 per cent of our target.

“This has been the highest amount the province has collected from levies.

“Secondly, there are four provincial council office staff whose wages will come from that amount.

“There is also a budget for sponsoring scholarships and some small projects that must be done.”

He added the province also celebrated the accomplishments of one of its favourite sons and Fiji Airways Fiji 7s Team captain, Paula Dranisinukula.

“Paula is a role model who can encourage the youths of Ra to pursue great things,” Mr Delaivuna said.

He acknowledged all the chiefs of the Ra Province for supporting the event yesterday.
