Ranjeeta Devi is glad she made the necessary sacrifices to attain a certificate in beauty therapy from the Fiji National University on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old graduate mother had to leave her family in Navua to complete the six-month-training at the Namaka Campus.

“It was not easy to leave my family behind, but my husband is very supportive and took care of our child and everything else while I was studying here,” Mrs Devi said.

She always wanted to become a professional beautician so she managed to save some money for her studies.

“I don’t want to rely on my husband for things that I want to achieve. I sacrificed my time and money in order to achieve my goals,” she said.

“Sometimes it is not easy being away from my son, but I always viber or video call him to help in his school work.

“There are mothers out there who maybe dreaming to achieve something better in life.

“In order for us to achieve our dreams, we have to manage everything and must make some sacrifices.

“It is not too late for us mothers, to go back to school and achieve a better qualification,” Mrs Devi added.

Meanwhile, a mother-of-four children, Temalesi Keteravu, who graduated with a certificate in Commercial Cookery, had to forge ahead despite not getting much support.

This didn’t discourage her to complete her studies.

“I thank God for giving me the strength that enabled me to successfully complete my studies. It was not easy for me to go back to school and study because there was not much support,” Ms Keteravu said.

“I struggled, but never lost hope in my bid to attain a certificate and get a good job to help support our family.”

She is happy to have achieved her goal, which demanded a lot of sacrifice, hard work and commitment.
