The date has been set for one of the best horse racing events.

The Bua Horseracing has been confirmed for Saturday at Lekutu Race Course.

The race will see 8 horses take part in the 1.6 km main event battling for the first prize-money of $200, trophy and medal.

Bua Horseracing Association president Mohammed Faruk said they are a charitable organization and help people from all walks of life, whether it is for overseas treatment or other worthy cause.

“This horseracing event is the only one in Vanua Levu.

“We do not have any sponsor and people from the area provide financial backup. We are seeking sponsorship to organize this event on a big scale like in Viti Levu,”Faruk said.

Association’s assistant secretary Shabnam Nisha said they have started preparation for the race.

“The racecourse is set and some minor things are left to iron out.

“The public will be able to see some of the best horses around Vanua Levu take part, Ms. Nisha said.

“Last year’s winner Tui Narara from Nasuva, Coboi will be the favourite but we can’t count out two-time champion Pawan from Dreketi.

“We are asking the people of the north to come and support the organization,” Nisha said.

Interesting part of the race will be ‘Juice race’ which will see untrained horses taking part.

The horse race will start at 10 am and tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for children.
