Kadavu Businessman On Murder Charge Granted Bail By High Court

A Kadavu businessman who is charged with murder has been granted bail by the High Court in Suva.

Ratu Vilimoni Ralawa Vakaloloma appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar on Wednesday, charged with one count of murder.

It is alleged that on December 1, 2018, at Namalata Bay, Kadavu, Vakaloloma recklessly caused the death of Napolioni Robert Tawake by driving a fibreglass boat whilst intoxicated.

Vakaloloma was represented by Suva lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Rajneel Kumar served the disclosures to the defence.

He also sought time to file the information on the matter.

Mr Kumar did not object to the bail of the accused, however, he requested strict bail conditions and suitable sureties.

He also told the court that the State may not remain with the charge of murder as the State was considering the charge of manslaughter.

Justice Goundar granted bail to Vakaloloma on the bail bond sum of $1000 with two sureties’ bond sum of $1000 each.

He ordered the accused not to offend while on bail, not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses, not to change his address without the leave of the court and to appear on all court dates.

Vakaloloma was also ordered to report to Vunisea Police Station once a month between 8 am and 8 pm.

The matter has been adjourned to October 7 for a plea before Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.
