Talks between Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison are expected to start on a positive note in Canberra today.

They set the tone yesterday when they attended the Sydney church service of the Horizon Church of which Mr Morrison is a member.

They sat together, putting aside their differences from Tuvalu over climate change during the Pacific Islands Forum.

Mr Bainimarama said after the service it was “great.”

“I was blessed to enjoy an impassioned performance and wonderful sermon…

“The message was powerful: there is no darkness that divine guidance cannot penetrate. God’s leadership can always chart our way through troubled waters. Wherever you are this morning, I wish you a blessed Sunday. Amen and God bless.”

Horizon Church is part of the Australian Christian Churches (formerly known as AOG) movement of more than 1000 Australian Pentecostal churches in voluntary co-operation.

The church service was a perfect prelude to Canberra where serious matters on bilateral relations between the two countries will be discussed.

Mr Morrison hosted a morning tea for Mr Bainimarama and the Fijian delegation after the service.

Then they flew to Canberra where the delegation was accorded a traditional Fijian welcome ceremony.  It was followed by lunch.

Last night Mr Morrison hosted a dinner for the delegation.
