Kameli Batiweti has been appointed as the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) new chief executive officer (CEO) effective from December 2.

Mr Batiweti joins FCEF Team with 25 years’ experience in human capital and corporate services management having held senior executive positions in the tourism and beverage sectors in Fiji.

Mr Batiweti will take over from Nesbitt Hazelman, who had resigned in September after a decade of serving FCEF as CEO.

He was the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s general manager- Corporate Services since August 1, 2017 before leaving the organisation last month.

Mr Batiweti is currently the Fiji Human Resource Institute president.

FCEF board comments

FCEF board president Sandeep Chauhan said the board appointed Mr Batiweti after their board meeting on October 30.

“He has the right credentials and capabilities that FCEF was looking for,” Mr Chauhan said.

“He is a hard worker, a people person and is very mature.

“He is aware of the work that needs to be carried forward and the work that needs to be done by FCEF in terms of the tripartite dealings that we have with Government, Trade Unions as well as our social partners and the work that FCEF has been carrying on all this while.”

He further added that Mr Batiweti’s contract is for three years, and it can be renewed.

“I think our members are going to be quite pleased with it, because most of them know Kameli.

“People have known about his appointment and we did announce it as a board where it was unanimous that he was the obvious candidate.

“We are all happy that we have a candidate like Kameli to lead the organisation forward because of the experiences he has with human resources and in terms of moving the organisation forward and then getting the right work done for FCEF.

“Obviously it would be difficult to fill Nesbitt shoes. With somebody like Kameli there is very little disruption with the work that needs to continue.”
