As priests, you are to have the heart to serve your community with the spirit of a servant.

This was the call by the head of the Catholic Church, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, during the ordination service of Rev Deacon Marisiele Waleca and Rev Deacon Gabriele Nausu Dulunaqio yesterday.

The Archdiocese of Suva reported that thousands of friends and relatives turned out to witness the ordination service at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in Suva.

Father Dulunaqio and Father Weleca are members of the congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

“Mission is one’s passion for Jesus and one’s passion towards His people (the community),” Archbishop Loy Chong said.

“You are the voice of God to His people, to look after and abide by His calling into your lives.’

Both Rev Deacon Waleca and Rev Deacon Nausu during their installation vowed to serve God and mankind.

Archbishop Loy Chong echoed the call by the President Jioji Konrote to the two ordained priests that: “They should adhere to God’s calling in their lives.”

Archbishop Novatus Rugambwa, who had presented his credentials as the Apostolic Nuncio in Honduras and is the Apostolic Nuncio in New Zealand and Apostolic Delegate to the Pacific Ocean last week, was part of the ordination ceremony.
