First five-eighth Teti Tela made the difference in the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians 33-31 win over the Barbarians at Twickenham, London on Sunday. His superb goal-kicking form and the ability to spark the Fijian backline was a catalyst in the historic win.

Tela hails from Vagadaci in Ovalau where he was born. His family moved to New Zealand when he was seven years old. This was where he started his rugby career.

At the age of 14 they moved to Australia and he played for Souths in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition.

In 2010 Tela made the Fijian Under-20 side that played in the Junior World Championship. He had a short stint in Spain before he returned to Australia and made it to the Queensland Country side under head coach and former All Blacks great Brad Thorn who developed him to be a better player.

In 2017, Tela played for Country when they won the National Rugby Championship.

He was again signed up by Thorn to join the Queensland Reds and made his Super Rugby debut in their final match against Sunwolves. Tela’s contract with the Reds has expired which allowed him to take up the offer to play for the Flying Fijians.
