A woman from Kasavu will appear in court today for allegedly interfering with Police work.

The 24-year-old will appear alongside another man from Bau, each charged with one count of obstruction.

It is alleged that they interfered with the work of two Police officers who were in the process of arresting a man allegedly found driving a vehicle with an expired wheel tax in Nausori.

As the Police officers were attempting to arrest the driver, the accused allegedly assaulted the officers and in the process, the officers used pepper spray to subdue the driver and keep others at arm’s length.

Police have also confirmed that the driver has been charged with one count of serious assault and had appeared in the Nausori Magistrates Court last Friday. He has been remanded and will re-appear in court tomorrow.

The Police have clarified that their officers had used standard procedures for the use of pepper spray at the time of the alleged incident.

“Our Police officers have undergone training and we have a standard operating procedure for the use of pepper spray,” Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said in an earlier statement.

Again, Police are warning motorists to abide by traffic regulations in place, as the festive season kicks in.
