“If you have any idea as silly as it may seem, if you think that it’s profitable or sustainable, if it helps people, I urge you to go for it, take action because action is key to success”

This was the key message shared by the Young Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES) Advocate Winston Hill.

He highlighted this during the launch of the Prime Minister’s National Youth Awards yesterday at Suvavou House.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games Welterweight Bronze Medalist now owns and runs a successful “box fit” programme.

He said this government initiative gives youths the recognition for the kind of work that they do.

“It’ll be a fantastic opportunity for youths of these country to be recognised across the nine different sectors for the hard work they have done and the contributions that they have to society.

“It’s a great initiative by the Government of Fiji in recognising youths of this country can do more and it’ll be repel effect for the youth of this country to strive to be better for themselves, their families, their communities and the national as a whole.

Like any business, challenges were faced but with the right kind of support, he overcame those challenges.

“When I started our business we had to drain our savings account and was left $2.75 in our name.

“Now we needed money to get this Programme started so we applied for the Young Entrepreneur Scheme and we were successful in our application and we received a grant of $30,000 this was very important for the success of the business.

Mr Hill added that through the YES programme, he was able to get mentorship and guidance through business.

Mr Hill acknowledges the government’s initiative and strongly urges youths to apply or nominate somebody that they think deserves these awards.
