Services provided by Classic Buses Limited will continue as usual, the company’s Director Operations West, Adnan Mohammed, said yesterday.

Mr Mohammed’s comment follows a claim on social media that they would completely stop their bus operation. However, he said they were only reducing a few of their trips.

“We will continue our services unless something comes up because we have been in service for long and we do not want to affect the public or the students. But the last scenario is if we have no fuel then we have no choice,” he said.

“We are not closing down, the problem we are facing is our revenue is really down and our expenses are more than our revenue so we cannot pay for fuel and wages and if we can’t do that then how will our buses run on the road?”

Mr Mohammed said urgent assistance was needed from the Land Transport Authority.

“We’ve been writing letters to LTA but nothing is happening they are giving out permits to the RSL (rural service licence) in a 15-seater van.

“We have reduced all the supplementary buses; we need urgent attention from LTA and Government. There’s a bus fare increase pending from last two years and LTA needs to do their work properly because there’s so many illegal activities going on.”

In a statement, LTA said as regulator, they deal with individuals directly.

“The authority does not conduct its business with individual entities through the press,” it said.
