TD04F To Intensify Later Tonight

Skies hazy with widespread high clouds across the country this morning as humid easterly trade winds persist.

Warm and steamy with passing showers throughout the day more frequent about the eastern and central divisions.

One or two afternoon thundery showers about the north and west later in the day.

Outlook for the next three days:

Forecasts indicate that TD04F will start to intensify later today and tonight with the cloud signature typical of a tropical depression as pressures fall near the centre.

Further strengthening is expected tomorrow. Indications are that it will pass very close to or over the islands of Fiji on Friday as a significant tropical cyclone.

Weather will deteriorate over the next 24 to 48 hours ahead of the approaching cyclone with heavy rain bands expected to affect Fiji from tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

At this time the forecast guidance indicates landfall is more likely over the east of the country on Friday after sunrise, however all of Fiji should be alert to the approaching hazard.
