Four new players will join the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s extended squad, says head coach Saiasi Fuli.

Verenaisi Ditavutu, Harina Eresito and Bulou Rokodinono were in action at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens yesterday.

Fuli confirmed he has included Asenaca Diranuve of Cakaudrove who was part of the Fiji Under-18 team which toured New Zealand last year.

He was impressed with the talent on display.

“I’ve managed to see three other players, one playing for Savusavu, two other players in other teams who will be joining us shortly,” he said.

“I aim to bring in young girls to be part of the squad. From this team we will only pull the core players to join the group.”

The veterans in the team include Raijieli Daveua, Ani Mei, Rusila Nagasau, Ana Roqica, Priscilla Siata, Lavenia Tinai, and Luisa Tisolo.

They proved too strong as they defeated Nadi Aviators 12-0, Sydney Savusavu 36-0, Rugby Academy Fiji 35-10.

“There are a lot of young girls that I have managed to identify and I have included in our current squad.

“There are a few other girls in Suva who couldn’t make it, they were supposed to play for our Fijiana development but school has started,” he added.

“Some are 17, 18-year olds and that’s the pathway to build depth in the squad.”

He added it’s hard to bring players because there is no club competition for women.

“The next competition is the Skipper Cup Premiership in March,”Fuli said.

“So far so good in terms of their individual performance, they were a bit rusty but this is all part of the plan,” said Fuli.

The women’s quarter-final kicks off this morning.
