Fiji-born Karen Te Nana always supports Fiji when they play New Zealand in the World Sevens Series.

She is the wife of former New Zealand 7s legend and rugby commentator Karl Te Nana who are here as guests of the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens.

Karen’s mother is from Naivicula, Wainibuka  Tailevu, and her dad is a Kiwi.

“I will always go for Fiji and Karl supports New Zealand so we do fight a lot when they are playing each other nowadays,” she said.

“When he was playing, I would support him but if Fiji was playing it would be hard. I actually don’t watch a lot of sevens anymore because he is not playing.

“I have been to a couple of seven tournaments but we’ve got children at home so I usually stay at home and look after them while he is traveling,” she added.

They have three children in son, Renata 26 who plays for the Washington DC in Major League Rugby.

The two girls Kaiya, 16 and Bria, 13 play netball.

“My 13-year-old is thinking about playing 7s, because she just starting high school this year.

“I think she would make a very good 7s player so she is trying to decide.”

Her mum met her dad while working for the Fiji Post.

“They met here through mutual friends. I was born in Suva and after three months we moved back to New Zealand.

“My mum lives in New Zealand and I have a brother and a sister. My sister was also born here in Fiji,” she said.
