Pedestrians using the Rewa Bridge have asked the Fiji Roads Authority to fix fences between the walkway and road before an accident happens.

Portions of the railing on the roadside along the walkway are missing because of vehicle accidents.

Nausori residents and pedestrians said this was dangerous.

Saimoni Nakalevu, of Nausori Village, said the walkway was used by students mostly as they made their way to school.

“Children are children and there could be a risk of one of them going onto the road. The vehicles speed along the bridge and the last thing a driver is anticipating is a pedestrian in his way,” he said.

“I just hope that it gets fixed.”

Abdual Jaffar, stays in Dilkusha and often walks along the bridge.

“It is a danger. But the bigger thing here is that that the parts of the railing have been missing for a long time,” he said.

“Why is it taking the authorities so long to fix this?”

Students from at least five schools use the bridge to get to school and to the bus stand.

According to FRA, fixing of the railing will take place and in the meantime the public was asked to exercise caution. Edited by Percy Kean
