Inducted as head boy is a milestone achievement for Peni Tuvutuvunibuka.

The Year 12 Andrah Sangam College student said he was honoured to be chosen as the school’s first Year 12 head boy during the school’s prefect induction ceremony last week.

“I was not expecting it because I am still in Year 12. In the past only Year 13 students were chosen as head prefect,” he said.

He said his selection was a reflection of the teachers and senior students’ faith in his ability to lead 326 students.

“This is despite me being originally from Labasa in Vanua Levu,” he said.

“My grandfather was here to support me and he told me it would be challenging because I am just in Year 12.”

But challenges are not new for the Korotubu, Macuata, lad who said: “It has been challenging being away from my parents, but it’s a positive experience now that I am the head boy.”

Head girl Matilda Simmons said having served in a similar position in the past groomed her to be head girl of the school.

“First of all it’s an overwhelming feeling, but I would like to thank the Almighty and my parents,” she said.

“In primary school, I was the head girl and was the assistant head girl of this school and now the head girl,” she said.

“I’m vocal, academically doing well and being familiar with students. I plan to lead them in an organised manner that will ensure progress.”
