Two Fiji Police officers based in China will be arriving into the country this Friday.

This was confirmed by the Fiji Police Force spokesperson, Ana Naisoro yesterday.

The officers, Michael Jang and Solomone Railumu had to return following the COVID-19 outbreak.

The duo had missed their Beijing to Hong Kong flight last Saturday due to delays at the railway station, since one of them was traveling from Nanjing to Beijing.

Ms Naisoro said: “The two were given medical clearance to travel and we have been liaising closely with the Fijian Embassy in China through the Foreign Affairs here in Fiji.”

Meanwhile, according to a report by the Fijian Embassy: “The embassy is working closely with the Fiji Police Force on rebooking their tickets to February 27 and finding temporary hotel accommodations for the two officers to stay in Beijing until their departure.

“All Fiji citizens in all provinces are being updated with a daily situation report that is prepared by the Fiji Embassy in Beijing.”

Fijian nationals in Wuhan province will be contacted on a regular basis by the Fiji Embassy in China for their health and safety reason.

“As of 19.00hrs BJT, Saturday February, 2020, the Fijian Embassy in Beijing confirms that all Fijians in Wuhan and other provinces are safe and all in good health as reported by all student representatives in different provinces,” the report stated.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete had earlier confirmed that Fiji has no confirmed cases of COVID-19.
