Paulo Kabulevu, 42, has finally made his aging mother and late father proud.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management yesterday.

He is the first degree holder in his family and cannot wait to take his certificate to his village in Tokou Village on Ovalau.

It was a three-year course at the Fiji National University College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies at Nasinu campus.

He said he wanted his nephews and nieces to follow in his footsteps.

“I only wish my father was alive to be present on my special day to bless me,” he said.

Mr Kabulevu said he had been waiting for this day since last December because the graduation was cancelled at the height of the measles outbreak.

He said it was the beginning of many more celebrations as he wishes to further his studies.

He wants to become a chief executive officer or manager for a private sector.

“There are so many opportunities and there are no limitations in the private sector. I love challenges to be the part of my career,” he said.

He said his mother inspired him to get a Bachelors degree.

“My mother is a diploma graduate in education from the University of the South Pacific and she wanted me to achieve something bigger, which for me, is a degree,” Mr Kabulevu said.
