COVID-19: Bau People Living In Western Division Will Not Be Permitted On The Island

Bau paramount chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, in a social media post, said: “This was for the safety of those who lived on the island. No visitors are permitted on the island.”

“Bauans living and travelling daily to work in Suva and Nausori are requested to be vigilant and observe the required precautions towards the battle against Coronavirus pandemic.

“Relatives coming to Bau from the Central Division will be scrutinised for the safety of the island people.”

Ratu Epenisa said all forms of gatherings such as a church service and matasiga had been cancelled.

“Only family worship at your own homes is permitted. No gatherings of more than 20 people at any time.

“Village heads will monitor movements of village members and visitors.”

Ratu Epenisa stressed that grog sessions are reduced with less than 20 people and with a two-metre distance from each other as precautionary measures during a kava session.

Around the country, villages have been taking extra precautionary measures in order to protect and safeguard their people from the pandemic.
