Several roads in the central division has been temporarily closed off due to flooding including the road to Wailoku which has been blocked from a landslide.

The National Disaster Management Office has activated the National Emergency Operations Centre as and working with the Divisional Commissioners in monitoring the current weather situation.

Director NDMO, Ms Vasiti Soko is urging the public to take the necessary measures to ensure that the lives of individuals and families are prepared.

“Please prepare your families and communities with emergency kits and put into practice your family/community disaster preparedness plans” said Soko.

Take the necessary steps to ensure that homes and properties is secured. Ensure that your compounds are cleared of all debris that could harm individuals and damage property in the event of strong winds. Ensure that pets and animals are also taken care of.

Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised to avoid crossing flooded roads and walkways. Do not take the risk!

The NDMO also urges motorists and pedestrians to be cautious of landslides.
