Sudha Patel said she was thankful to her landlord, professional football player Roy Krishna, who waived one month’s rent for her family and other tenants residing on his recently purchased property in Drasa Avenue, Lautoka.

The 51-year-old said she and her son occupy the second flat at the bottom of the double-storey house, with the other two flats being occupied by two other tenants.

“We have been staying here for 20 years and it has been two months now since he bought the property. None of us are working at the moment and I was the sole breadwinner,” she said.

“He (Mr Krishna) is very generous to be able to think of other people since everyone is having their hours cut at work.

“We are struggling to pay rent. It was very nice of him to not ask for rent this month.”

She said she used to operate a canteen opposite the Lautoka courthouse, however, it has closed because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

Mr Krishna’s wife, Naziah Ali-Krishna, said the assistance provided by her husband was to ease the financial burdens of the tenants.

“I think everybody is going through a hard time right now and since Lautoka is locked down, I’m sure people are affected so they are probably aren’t able to work or earn a living so this is at least something to ease the burden,” she said.
