The Fiji Rugby Union yesterday received a timely donation of two buses valued at $400,000 from the Guandong Province in China.

During the handover ceremony at Albert Park in Suva it was revealed the buses will allow FRU to save approximately $500,000 in transportation costs.

Prime Minister and FRU president Voreqe Bainimarama said he was grateful to the People’s Republic of China and the province of Guandong for their kind gesture.

“I’m thankful and have accepted these two new buses,” he said.

“Both (buses) of which will lighten half a million dollars of transporting costs of our women and sevens teams to and from their training venues as well as the staff and board of FRU.”

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Qian Bo, commended Bainimarama for his personal involvement.

He also praised the Fijian men’s sevens team for its performance over the years, winning the Hong Kong 7s title for the record fifth year in a row and the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

“I believe the buses will facilitate the transportation and training of the sevens teams players and other FRU teams around the country,” he added.

The buses arrived in April and have been registered.
