Fiji Football Association Labasa Academy is expected to be opened by February, next year, says Rajesh Patel.

The Fiji FA president said yesterday that the academy would be of international standard and would boost the development of players in the Northern Division.

“We are the only sporting organisation building an academy in the northern division which is set to open in February,” Patel said.

The Academy is worth $5.5 million, FIFA has invested $4.6 million in the project while FIJI FA will be funding the rest.

BRIGHTER FUTURE

“We have taken the initiative to give youths the opportunity to be better players before they make the national team.

“The academy will include a kitchen, office, playground, dormitories (accommodate 30 players), technical room, conference hall, changing room and space for 150-180 people for weddings, birthdays and private functions.”

The Fiji FA plans to hold the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament at Labasa’s Subrail Park in November provided it’s Occupational, Health, Safety (OHS) compliance.
